The attractive Samsung Trender measures 4.2 by 2.2 by 0.6 inches (HWD) and weighs four ounces. It feels like a quality device, even though it's made entirely of plastic. The lightweight design and electric blue sides and back panel looked sharp on my review unit; you can also get one in purple. The smooth, flush, 2.8-inch, 240-by-320-pixel touch screen features vibrant color. Touch response is just okay for a plastic resistive LCD, and nowhere near as accurate as today's capacitive screens. It took two or three tries before many of my finger swipes and button presses registered. The slide-out QWERTY keyboard, on the other hand, is a gem. It features four rows of well-spaced, if flat, keys. I found the phone's small size and horizontal slider form factor made for a keyboard that's just the right width for fast two-finger typing. The Samsung Trender is a dual-band EV-DO Rev 0 (850/1900 MHz) device with no Wi-Fi. Voice quality was solid in both directions, with a clear tone in the earpiece, and a natural sound led display watches m003 4GSI9 Quad Band Dual Cards with Java Touch Screen Cell Phone (Black) Dapeng T8000 Quad Band Dual Cards Wifi Analog TV External Luxury QWERTY Keyboard Brown Leather case Cell Phone Uniquefire Flashlights china supplier exquisite round case stylish japan quartz movement watch 6010 (white) samurai led watch FS-805T Freescale A8 8 inch Google Android 2.2 Flash 10.1 Gravity Sensor Tablet PC Black fashionable adidas wrist watch (black) Special Car DVD Player For Toyota-Vios (new) With GPS /Bluetooth/iPod cheap mp4 players china cell phones unlocked a738 android 2.3 inch G100 Wifi Analog TV Java FM Quad Cards QWERTY Keyboard Cell Phone(Black) high powered 100w 32-36v 2400lumens white light led emitter metal plate(5000-5500k buy free shipping h3000 sipik flashlight 2.0 inch K180 Analog TV FM Tri Cards QWERTY Keyboard Cell Phone(Pink) neo socket fuel saver Google Android 2.3 Series fg8 quad band dual cards android 2.2 china mp4 ROKEA 668 Quad Band Single Card with Wifi Java FM Touch Screen Cell Phone T2000i Quad Band Dual Card With Analog TV Bluetooth Unlocked Cell Phone china wholesale phones through the microphone to callers on the other end. Reception was iffy; the phone dropped two calls during a battery test, but my actual conversations were fine, even though I live in a somewhat marginal Sprint coverage area. Calls sounded fine through an Aliph Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headset ($99, 4 stars), and voice dialing worked well over Bluetooth without training. The speakerphone was surprisingly loud and powerful. Battery life was disappointing at just 3 hours and 53 minutes of talk time. Samsung combines the home screen and main menu into four tabs—Favs, Main, Fun, and Web—each with up to nine icons arranged in a grid pattern. Pressing the End button brings you to a fifth customizable screen with a dialer and address book, while pressing the Home button returns you to the first four tabs. (It seems backwards, but I got used to it.) You'll never miss a text with this phone, thanks to the full screen alert and default double ringtone. Ringtones are suitably loud, and text messages are threaded. The Access NetFront 3.5.1 browser delivers decent WAP pages, but that's about it. You get dedicated Facebook and Twitter icons, though they just point to the mobile WAP pages. There's no GPS. Multimedia, Eco-Friendliness, and Conclusions There's a standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack on top of the phone. The microSD card slot is located underneath the battery cover, but not the battery; it's not too tough to get at, and my 32GB SanDisk card worked fine. There is also 98MB of free internal memory. Music tracks sounded clear and full through Samsung Modus HM6450 ($99, 4 stars) Bluetooth headphones, and the music player app displayed small album art thumbnails. The low-end, 1.3-megapixel camera has no flash or auto-focus. Test shots were poor overall, thanks to slow shutter speeds; everything looked soft and fuzzy outdoors, and all indoor photos were too smudged to be of any use. There's no video player or camcorder. The Trender may not be quite as eco-friendly as the Samsung Replenish (Free, 2 stars), but it holds its own, and the Trender is a better phone anyway. It's made from partially recycled materials and comes in a fully recyclable package. Like many phones today, it reminds you to unplug the charger when the battery is full. Given that we've yet to see a GreenTech Approved phone that's also high-end in terms of features, the Trender strikes a reasonable compromise. The Samsung Trender occupies a useful niche; it's inexpensive, easy to text on, a good voice phone, and it's plugged into social networks (via the browser). The Sanyo Innuendo SCP-6780 ($29.99, 3.5 stars) is a decent alternative; it's a flip, but it has a larger internal screen and a separate OLED numeric keypad on the front. The LG Rumor Touch (Free, 4 stars) remains our Editors' Choice for feature phones, with solid music and video players and more multimedia apps. Your best option is also free up front, though it costs a bit more per month: the LG Optimus S (Free, 4 stars) is a solid midrange Android smartphone, complete with a 3.2-inch capacitive screen, free GPS navigation, a great WebKit browser, and access to over 100,000 third-party apps in Android Market.
