The mouse market has very little to offer when it comes to true ergonomically-sound navigating solutions—oversaturated by out-of-the-box computer mice and keyboards. Many consumers merely accept the crappy plastic device they're given bundled with computers, but if you find your wrist slowly suffering from the daily grind of mousing around then consider the Hippus HandShoe Mouse ($129 direct). It may look like a clunker, but it will cradle your hand like no other. Design The HandShoe comes in three sizes to conform properly to your hand's length. I received the medium model, which measures 7.5 by 5.5 by 2.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 15.2 ounces. Its size makes it a bit of a space hog, so you'll likely have to keep this unit at home. The entire mouse is constructed of matte black plastic. The structure cradles your entire hand from wrist to fingertips, and helps to prevent your hand from gripping or holding the sides of the mouse like you would a standard one; ultimately causing strain. This form factor creates a more relaxed navigating experience. However, the structure isn't as neutral a position for your hand and wrist as the Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 ($99.95 direct, 4.5 stars) is (i.e. a vertical handshaking position), placing your hand in a vertical position as if reaching out for a handshake. But the HandShoe Mouse has a form factor that is less intimidating for new ergonomic users. cute hello kitty with apple shaped picture fashionable wrist watch sigg luggage A815 8 inch Google Android 2.3 Samsung S5PV210 ARM Cortex-A8 1GHz Tablet PC Electronic Cigarette Roof Mounted DVD & Monitor android 2.3 ?????? 10.1 kede watch 2.0 inch F966 Bluetooth FM Dual Cards Cell Phone(Yellow) small sun zy-203 2.6 inch E8 Analog TV FM Dual Cards QWERTY Keyboard Touch Screen Cell Phone(White) A5 Dual Cards Android 2.2 Wifi Java FM Touch Screen Smart Phone King of Fighter Cosplay android epad A8 Dual Band Dual Cards with MP3 MP4 Cell Phone (Black) xut-n97 E27 LED Lighting moonse e7002 black butler madam red angelina dalles cosplay Cutepad A9 Google Android 2.2 7 inch NEC(RENASAS) EMMA EV2 Dual Corex-A9 1GHz Bluetooth Tablet PC a816 8 Q7 Quad Band Dual Cards with FM Bluetooth Touch Screen Watch Phone(White) egltel v6 303-653-2340 sd-301 150mw green laser H7000 Quad Band Dual Cards Android 2.2 With Wifi GPS Java Capacitive Touch Screen Smart Phone(White) The right and left mouse buttons were a little stiff for my tastes, but nothing too serious to make your RSI flair up. I would have preferred something a little more light to click, like the buttons found on the Gigabyte M8000Xtreme ($59.99 list, 4.5 stars). There's a scroll wheel in between the two mouse buttons made of rubber and provides enough traction to prevent a slip of the finger, if you will. Features The HandShoe is a wireless mouse (connects via USB adapter) with a rechargeable battery, but this feature comes with a caveat. In order to charge the mouse and still use it at the same time, the wireless USB dongle must still be plugged into the computer and the user must plug an additional wired USB cable into the mouse and computer. This system takes up two USB ports that you may not have, and is dated technology. There are wireless USB receivers, like the one found on the Gigabyte Aivia M8600 ($104.99 street, 3 stars), that can connect a cable through the wireless receiver in order to charge, and it doesn't take up more than one USB port. There are even mice that can alternate between wired and wireless connectivity, so the fact that the HandShoe doesn't support either of these solutions is very confusing. It tracks at 1000dpi, which should be sufficient for office users, with a BlueRay light (as opposed to red) that allows you to use the mouse on a wider array of surfaces. You won't be able to change the dpi settings, as the HandShoe Mouse doesn't come with any optional software—it's just plug-in and start using the mouse. The Hippus HandShoe Mouse is a solid ergonomic solution; it's clear a lot of thought was given into engineering its design to suite those suffering from carpel tunnel and RSI. But it seems that in the process, some of the details were overlooked. The charging setup is, well, clunky; this mouse shouldn't have to occupy two USB ports in order to recharge its batteries. If you're willing to go outside the box and adjust to a new way of holding a mouse, the Editors' Choice VerticalMouse 4 offers up a great navigating experience, a more natural wrist position, and lighter clicking experience.
