Virgin Mobile USA recently added the Motorola TRIUMPH to its Android-powered smart phone lineup. Its release has been highly anticipated, largely because the handset offers top-of-the-line smart phone features with unlimited data, no-contract service plans. As I noted here back in December, a prepaid plan is attractive for many consumers in today's economy. The usual trade-off, however, is a less-than-exciting choice of handsets. Not so with Virgin Mobile's latest offering. For $299.99, the TRIUMPH provides a 1GHz processor, 4.1-inch touchscreen, rear-facing 5MP camera, front-facing VGA camera for video chat, and 720p HD camcorder with HDMI output (HDMI cable sold separately). The TRIUMPH doesn't represent the bleeding edge of Android technology, but you get an enjoyable Android experience complete with access to corporate email, social media sites, the full suite of Google services, and the Android Market for access to more than 200,000 useful applications, widgets and games. The device is also the first handset to come preloaded with the Virgin Mobile Live 2.0, a social networking music application you can use to access the Virgin Mobile branded music stream, hosted by DJ Abbey Braden. The app also provides free access to live music performance videos and "check in" features at special events. Status updates made using the app also sync with Facebook and Twitter.
